Drawing horses as much as she loved riding them was what a female artist loved when she was a child. She has many years of experience as an artist and early training that eventually led her to a career involving painting horses and other subjects of the natural world. She has a number of pastel and watercolor paintings carrying images of horses, reindeer, hens, and dogs.
She and her family moved to the present county from Philadelphia when she was 11. She had a commercial artist for a father and like him, her mother and sister also painted for fun. When it comes to drawing, her father says that this is real important to an artist. Such details are evident in the structure of the animals she paints.
Her love of painting animals has expanded to painting dogs and cats. In their present home, she and her husband have a cat not to mention two dogs. Apart from this she paints pets for private commissions.
With regard to how light distinctly stands out in her paintings, this may be the bright white of daylight or the darker amber hues of evening. She said she cares a lot about having a sense of light in her paintings. A reason for her preference of watercolor is this. She finds watercolor to be a series of transparent washes that can go over pieces of paper. White paper glows when the paint is applied. A different way of creating light comes with the use of oil paint. How light is revealed depends on everything around it being painted.
What artists do when using watercolor is painting around what is white. After they have painted in the dark shadows, artists using oil can then add the light. In her career, the artist would like to take on the challenge of luminosity in oil paintings at some point. She loves the impressionists and would like to spend some years painting in oil.
What inspires her today is her move from the former town to the present location at the countryside. What she explores are the back roads and you can see this in her pictures of old farmhouses and landscapes in the foothills. She said she is very much concerned about those old farmhouses that get torn down. In order to acknowledge and protect the old houses, she urgently finds the need to paint them. She is someone who loves the historic architecture.
It is still life paintings that this artist is also passionate about. Texture and detail are things she uses subtly instead of painting using a photographic style or realism. The focus for her paintings of pets includes the detail as well as the animal's facial expressions. What she attended was a known school of art and the Maryland institute college of art in Baltimore as well. Since age 25 she was already painting professionally even if she worked as a nurse for much of her career. She established her credentials as a painter through the ensuing years especially in areas covering florals, architectural subjects, portraits, and pets. Once a week, she works as a nurse.
