What is a good digital SLR camera for field work / biologist / Walking?
I want to go digital SLR camera, I'm a field biologist, so I want a camera that can take good landscape pictures, but I want to be able to take very high quality macro pictures as detailed images of small bugs and flowers, etc. This is more important. I have about € 300 / $ 370 / £ 250 to spend, and as further challenge, because I work in the field would be best if they were healthy and to some degree, if not waterproof. Also I I do not know any technical jargon has More so if you can explain everything mentioned, I probably would not know, I very grateful.
OK OK a digital systam is feasible for £ 250, although it will be tight. I think, Nikon D70 / and, D40 or Canon 10D or 300D are the only options. You need a decent wide angle lens for landscapes, but with 18-55mm will be fine for this, as long learn how to overcome this shortcoming. For macro, it's different ballgame. Especially for insects will have a long focal length macro keep the working distance (how you are very far from the topic) reasonably high this will prevent prejudice to the creature while shooting. A Canon 100 mm f2.8 macro is a very good lens, such as Micro-Nikkor 105 mm but they are quite expensive. For Canon will be better getting an M42 lens (one hundred and thirty five mm f2.8) and a set of macro tubes, and adapter the Nikon you can look older than Micro-Nikkor AI-S generation, these are two big lenses manual focus, but they are equally good construction. Otherwise will struggle to obtain adequate macro lens for £ 250, not to mention the whole system. Now Most SLRs are difficult, but do not expect weather for £ 250. On Canon 1D and 5D series are weatherproof conditions, as is Nikon D700, D1-3 and Pentax K7, but they are all really expensive cameras. In 1D MK1 (used) are still £ 400-500, a new 1D mkIV is £ 3500-4000, and is a classic 5D £ 500-700.
