Question about painting (Oil color)?
I'm trying to paint a picture - not for anything other than just to try. (I'm really good at sketching, but never tried painting.) How do I start ... can paint the background, after work from there, you can pencil him paint visible (as bamboo trees and such) then paint the ground behind some details ... there is a rule for this?
I am a professional portrait and landscape painter for 25 + years working in all media. Here's my art - as you can see, I know what I'm talking about. http://www.flickr.com/photos/denisethepainter/sets/72157612429088898/ I'm not denying the value of trying ** ** These techniques others have shared to see if they work for you ... BUT - I AM, however, denied the idea of allowing them Boxed in people, crippled and limits emprisoned from "RULES" in various painting techniques and then being afraid to lose by what you have said is was "RULE Golden ... because it is so stiff and solid =>> and white-** opposite of personal freedom of choice and thinking **-- which is a large part the creation of art. There are various "techniques" you can choose to try that have worked for people OTHER ....( Some which then those people are trying to determine how "rules" for all just because it works for you <<-- To do so is just obnoxious and self-annointing) ... But this does not mean that it is therefore now>> carved in stone <<that you "should" now follow any particular RULE "" a T "" ... As a painter later, great Transylvanian Lillian Nagy once said: "ONLY" rule "for art is: No rules. Although there " rules "people are trying to determine how" important "..... this does not mean that you then should follow them. I am an eternal rule bender / breaker and often rebel ... choice always to do things the way my ... and in some of these experiences, what is "my way" is a completely different order from what I had been told was a "Rule". I have developed my own way of doing things so that they work for me and I am completely self taught and not necessarily adhere to the same technique with every painting I perform ... and pictures of my work out fine. So, this "first lan, the other belonging to a certain interval, then should be dark to light - is only one way of looking at the process ... and, if it works for others - This is great for them ... BUT it is not right to then try and force the technique on others as RIGHT NO ... there is no "right and wrong" ... just do what works for you. turps jumping from previous washes is a technique good to try. What is good about lan turps - with ink dilluted is that you can build up your image. You can try that. See how that works for you. You can choose to make a pencil sketch first since that is determined by the idea Your basis of "what goes where"; for use as a map 'or' model '.. so you can paintng you focus on your ... so you have a guide of what you want to scheme ... you can add the image of the marks with a pencil if you want more as your ideas develop - or, with turps wash, you can lay out and build painting in your technique ... or you can just start with a blank canvas painting of your head with NO previous scheme - it belongs to you you completely - this and what other processes you have chosen to take. Have fun and just experiment. The main thing is that it is fully in the process you get. That's way better. find work for me is to have a pre-canvas that GESSOed pre-stretched. splint holds paint from seeping through the canvas.
